From November 2, 2017 to January 7, 2018, museum Beelden aan Zee shows the first museum solo exhibition of Norva Sling. The exhibition is entitled Norva Sling. Shapes of Love. Norva Sling was born on November 12, 1947, under the constellation Scorpio in Curacao. The artist is autodidact and her career as a ceramic sculptor started in 1972. Norva Sling lives alternately on Curaçao and in the Netherlands. She herself summarizes her work and spirit in the striking words: "As an artist, I am especially inspired by nature, her cycle of birth and death. I like to work with curves, smoothly stretched sphere and hollow shapes, kneaded with cool damp clay. "
The exhibition will contain 30 sculptures, which together form a good overview of the artist's oeuvre. The performances range from portraits of women to animal figures. The female figure is often presented in relation to fertility, birth, pregnancy.
Norva Sling's work has yet to be seen in the Netherlands. This exhibition offers the museums visitor the opportunity to get acquainted with this Curacao artist. Her work has a strong associated with tropical art. Her loving creations of the women's body are the accomplishment of Norva's spiritual mindset and provide insight into her culture.
