In the coming autumn, museum Beelden aan Zee will be the stage for something unique: it will be the first ever solo exhibition dedicated to Frits van Hall (1899-1945). Van Hall was one of the most promising sculptors of his generation. He was executed in 1945 because of his role in the resistance. Whoever takes into account Van Hall’s relatively short career – a little more than twenty years, can only have respect for the versatility of his oeuvre: an interesting melange of classicism with the gracious forms of the Far East. An abundance of themes, materials, formats and practices are to be seen in this exhibition.

From several metres high, free-standing sculptures to works that measure only a few centimetres, from primitive wooden figures hacked straight from the tree trunk to tiny figures in terracotta or silver. With many works from private collections, this is the first time that museum Beelden aan Zee displays the versatility of this short but powerful oeuvre. The opening of this exhibition coincides with the publication of the first monograph on Van Hall.
